Yup. I’m back in the saddle. I am currently guilty of the Thanksgiving hangover, so decided to take a few more days off staying here at my folks’ place since I might not be able to spend Christmas with them as I will be with my fiancee in the East Coast this Yuletide Season.
Since I want to keep abreast with the Detroit Carmakers’ plea for a bailout but got the faintest of chances with a major boo-boo in riding posh corporate jets on their way to Congress, I’ve browsed through the Intarwebz and I’ve found that they are making a last-ditch stand by asking for taxpayer-funded bridge loans by riding on hybrid vehicle on their way to Washington DC. For starters, GM has decided to shut down all of its corporate aviation services for now. Then GM top honcho Rick Wagoner will head to the capital via a Chevro Malibu Hybrid, while Ford CEO Alan Mulally will ride an Escape Hybrid. This 520-mile trip will only cost Wagoner around 15 gallons (or $30) worth of gasoline during the trip. The Escape Hybrid, meanwhile, runs at 33 mpg.
This doesn’t take much out of their pockets, as opposed to the $10,000 one-way ticket aboard a G5 jet. Well, I guess now they have to get used to nine-hour, inter-state troop if they really want to save on their expenses.
